Sugaring Vs. Waxing

With wax still being the more well known between waxing and sugaring, you may be wondering why I choose to offer sugaring. While they are both great options for hair removal there are certain aspects of sugar that stuck out to me. In my opinion, there is no comparison between the two. Read on while I give you the inside scoop on sugar and the facts on wax.

First: What is Sugaring?

Sugaring is a form of hair removal that removes the hair directly from the root using a ball of sugar, known as sugaring paste. This sugaring paste usually follows a simple recipe, consisting of only lemon juice, sugar, and water. The sugaring paste is applied in the opposite direction of hair growth using the sugarists gloved hand and is removed in the direction of growth. Removing the hairs in the direction of growth allows for easier extraction, and ultimately leads to less breakage and long-lasting results

The Scoop on Sugar: Why do I like it more?

Sugar has many benefits that make it the perfect choice. Though the list is endless the following are the top 5 reasons I chose sugaring over wax.

1. Natural Ingredients

If you know me at all, you know I like to do my very best for the planet. Sugar consists of just three simple ingredients, lemon, sugar, and water. These products break down very quickly and dissolve on contact with water. There is no stripes used and no sticks, and typically very few gloves. The amount of waste I avoid creating when I sugar vs. when I wax means less waste building up in the landfill!

2. Low temps = no chance to burn you!

Sugar is used at incredibly low temperatures. If sugar was hot enough to burn a client, it would be too runny for me to scoop out of the pot. Though most estheticians are always very careful about wax being too hot, sometimes things happen. This way, burning a client isn't even something I (or you) will ever have to worry about!

3. Direction of Removal

When it comes to the direction of removal, sugar, and wax are literally exact opposites. Wax is applied in the direction of growth and removed against the growth, whereas sugar is applied against the growth and removed with it. Removing the hair in the direction of growth leads to an easier removal with less breakage, leading to longer-lasting results!

4. Hygiene

Sugaring is amazing in that it relieves any fears you may have of getting a bad technician. When you go to certain waxing salons you really have to make sure they aren't double-dipping. With sugar, there is nothing to double-dip! You don't have to worry about cross-contamination, at all!

5. Easy to Clean

Sugar pastes simple, water-soluble formula makes it a breeze to clean. If it gets stuck anywhere, you can easily remove it with a warm cloth. No need for any special removers. The days of leaving a waxing appointment and sticking together are long gone!
